NCC Partners CBN To Fight e-Banking Fraud


As a result of the high rate of e-banking fraud in Nigeria, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has collaborated with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and stakeholders in the sector to fight the menace.

NCC at a one-day interactive workshop in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital said that all hands must be on deck to fight fraud in the system.

The workshop with the theme: ‘3rd industry on the electronic fraud in Banking,’ witnessed several lectures on the possible ways of addressing the high rate of fraud in the banking industry.

Delivering a lecture, Adewale Banjoko, the Principal Fraud Consultant of Global Fraud & Forensic Consultants Limited, explained that it was expedient for the awareness campaign on fraud in banking sector to be carried down to the teenagers and the undergraduates in various universities.

He posited that statistics had showed that people within such age brackets and found in such environment had chances of getting involved in such act if not properly guided.

He further said that the police and the Judicial sectors had a lot of work by ensuring that any body found committing such an act should not only be arrested, detained, but should face the full weight of the law accordingly without any prejudices.

While explaining some strategies of the bank fraudsters, he advised people to know how, when and who they relate information of their businesses and that of their private life, which according to him, might go out through one personal assistant or family relations.

In his speech, the representative of CBN, Abdulahi Hassan, described cyber crime, e-banking fraud and social engineering as heavy crime against the law, adding that the collaboration between the NCC and the banking sector was a key to addressing the problem.
