Following the gruesome murder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) midwife, Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa by the terrorist’s organization, Boko Haram, Her Excellency, Mrs Toyin Ojora Saraki, Global Goodwill Ambassador of the International Confederation of Midwives, has condemned the killing and also called for an immediate release of all care givers in the sect’s enclave.

Condemning the dastardly act in a statement made available to The New Diplomat, Mrs Saraki said: “The murder of Saifura, a midwife who bravely left her home to help those in need, is a tragedy for Nigeria and for the global community of midwives. We mourn her deeply. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, in particular her two children, and her International Red Cross colleagues.”

The killing of the 25 year-old Saifura who is a mother of two, followed her abduction in March at Rann, Borno State alongside two other ICRC health workers.

“I now call on all efforts to be made to secure the immediate release and rescue of Hauwa Mohammed Liman and Alice Loksha. Health workers should never be a target; their abduction is an act of unimaginable cruelty

“This is a tragic reminder of the threat to life and liberty faced by midwives, nurses and health-care workers who selflessly work for the health and wellbeing of others.

“I stand in solidarity with them and will continue to advocate for their safety in carrying out their life-saving work,” she said.
